I bought this maxi dress during my first few weeks in San Francisco, and it is without a doubt the most versatile, frequently worn item in my wardrobe. It's great for enjoying the sun in Dolores Park and transitions well for when Karl the Fog inevitably rolls in. (Do you live in San Francisco? Have you met Karl? If not, you must follow him immediately here, here or here. Thank me later.)
That being said, I've been getting a little bored of my standard maxi attire. I've also been hanging on to this sequined drawstring top for years. I love the details on the sleeves and the sheer material, but the drawstring causes it to hang kinnndaa funky when worn with pants OR skirts OR shorts. It's been awkward to pair and often gave off the dreaded maternity gear vibe. It remained untouched in the closet for years and was sitting pretty in the Donate Pile of Doom during a recent clothing purge when I decided (as I often do) to give it one last try. This was the result.
I wore it to chow down at Burma Superstar for a friend's birthday (if you go, get the Tea Leaf Salad. It's as good as they say. Really, I swear. So good.) Suffice to say, I think the shirt is gonna stay, and will likely become a mainstay in the maxi mix. I paired it with a leather jacket, cause as nice as it's been out here lately, nights are still chilly, the microclimates unpredictable, and that wind that blows down my street is still no joke.
