Yesterday (May 27), the Golden Gate Bridge celebrated its 79th birthday. As with most birthdays, I missed it by a day (it's something I'm trying and failing to be better about). In my typical fashion, below are a few favorite photos I've taken of the Golden Gate Bridge, a sort of birthday celebration one day late.
I just really really really REALLY love this bridge.
I'm not sure if its because the Golden Gate is arguably the most iconic landmark of SF (and thus what I daydreamed about seeing while plotting my move to San Francisco) or if it's just the gorgeous view on its own - most likely a mix of both.
If we're ranking views of the City from the bridge, I have to admit that my preference is the Bay Bridge. The Bay is my typical route into SF, and there's something about the view of downtown on the drive in that gets me every time.
That being said, the views from the Golden Gate are a close second, and I much prefer the scenic views of Goldie, when compared to the Bay Bridge itself.
There's basically no bad views of this bridge.
The shot above was taken from a lookout spot on the Marin County side of the bridge, during my friend Devon's visit (you can see more of our tourist spots in a post here).
The following photos include some of my favorite bridge viewing locations - China Beach, the walk from Chrissy Field, views from Golden Gate Recreation Area just south of the bridge (on the SF side, last exit before crossing over) as well as the overlook on the Marin side of the bridge.
